Matyas Gayer Trio / Westbourne Park
Release Date: 23rd August 2024
CD & Digital Formats / UBU0171
Ubuntu Music is delighted to announce the signing of Hungarian pianist/composer Matyas Gayer, for the release of Westbourne Park, his upcoming trio album on Ubuntu Music.
Matyas explains the background behind his latest project: “Capturing my artistic journey in London, this record embodies my musical evolution in the past years. Collaborating with two of my favourite musicians, Dave Green (bass) and Steve Brown (drums) is my vision coming true. Three generations playing music together resulted in a melodic, often lyrical jazz piano trio. Their musicality made the best out of my compositions and arrangements.”
Matyas continues, describing his music: “Westbourne Park is a selection of 10 songs inspired and influenced by my stay in London over the last five years. The theme song is inspired by an area I first moved to and stayed in for a short period of time. Five originals are on the album, as well as four arrangements from the Great American Songbook, as well as a reimagination of a piece by one of my favourite pianist/composers, Frederik Chopin.”
Matyas shares his view concerning his new relationship with Ubuntu Music: “I first heard of Ubuntu Music from my high-profile artist friends and am really happy to now be part of a musical journey together and contributing to music history.”
Martin Hummel, Director of Ubuntu Music, concludes: “I was absolutely knocked out from the very first time I heard Matyas’ ‘Westbourne Park’ project. Matyas has been described as one of a handful of young pianists who is successfully forging his own distinctive style and musical voice out of the greatness of a jazz piano tradition. Combine this with the multi-generational trio of Dave Green and Steve Brown, and you have magic. We welcome Matyas to the Ubuntu Music Family.”
